We’ve had an electric short issue since I bought the Venza almost 2 yrs ago. Probably why they dumped it at the dealer. It would intermittently completely disrupt the entire dash - speedo/tach/main display. Car would keep driving but computer would “blink” Then you'd have no power steering/brakes, all the idiot lights come on, and yet there would be no codes in memory to diagnose. Turn the car off and it wouldnt restart. Until it was ready - could be days. This needed an actual mechanic with common sense and natural curiosity to figure this out. Gold River Auto, Toyota Dealer in Folsom (eff them they were awful and no help) and Folsom Japanese Auto Repair all saw the car. No one had a clue. It took Lee’s and some guys with gray hair, that didnt need a DTC to even begin work to sort this out. I’m so impressed with them and grateful. We’d be stranded with this car, towing it to places and get no help for almost 2 years. This is the first time we’re willing to drive it anywhere out of Sacramento, believing it will not fail now. I’ve since come to discover that repair shops nowadays, are either actual mechanics who can fix things, or shops that use a computer to diagnose the car and replace parts using no actual brain skills. I wish I had understood the difference sooner. I feel a bit betrayed, as ALL mechanics used to have to use their brains, but now they dont, and I was never told about the evolution of the industry. If the dealer is charging a mechanics rate of what they do, I assumed there’s a level of skill and expertise commensurate to that level. They’re not - they nor Folsom Japanese would spend the time. GRA tried but they are a volume business and nice folks, but not capable of fixing it. They had it multiple times. Thank God for Lee’s - I’ll be back for all my mechanic needs. I want to support this kind of business, as this is my expectation when I bring my car to a shop.
